 Medical assistance

In case of emergency travellers from the European Economic Area and Switzerland are entitled to receive free medical treatment by presenting the European Sanitary Card. The card allows access to public medical care and does NOT cover the costs of the repatriation, chronic diseases or treatments that are not considered urgent, so it is advisable to get an additional insurance.

Free medical assistance can be received from any of the health care providers that have concluded contracts for health services with the National Health Fund called for short NFZ.

In case of using the service of the medical assistance in Poland it is essential to verify that the practice or clinic is affiliated with the Fund NFZ. If this is NOT the case, the patient will be required to cover the full cost of the treatment.

In case of an emergency it is also possible to get direct medical assistance in the public hospital. The medications received at the hospital are free of charge.

More information can be found on the internet page of the Central Office of the National Health Fund www.nfz.gov.pl/ue (important information also available in English, German, Spanish and French) or it can be obtained by contacting directly the Central Office of the National Health Fund - The International Affairs Office (Centrala Narodowego Funduszu Zdrowia - Biuro Współpracy Międzynarodowej:
